Clean & Care
Your Guide to Lasting Frames
Your memories and art are precious. At Frame & Decors, we want to ensure that the frames protecting them look beautiful for years to come. Proper care is simple and can prevent damage, fading, and wear.
Follow these instructions to keep your framed art in perfect condition.
🧹 1. Dusting Often
This is the most important step to keep your frames looking their best.
-
Frame Itself: Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth to gently wipe dust from the frame. For ornate or carved frames, a soft-bristled brush (like a new, clean makeup brush or paintbrush) can help get dust out of the crevices.
-
The Glazing (Glass/Acrylic): Dust the glass or acrylic just as you would the frame, using a clean microfibre cloth.
🧼 2. Cleaning the Glazing (Acrylic)
Warning: Never spray cleaner directly onto the frame or glass. Liquid can seep under the glass and damage your photo or artwork.
For Acrylic (Plexiglass):
Acrylic is softer than glass and scratches easily.
-
Never use paper towels or standard glass cleaners (like Windex) on acrylic. They are abrasive and will cause scratches or a cloudy appearance.
-
Use a special acrylic-safe cleaner or a simple solution of mild soap and water.
-
Apply the cleaner to a very soft, non-abrasive cloth (like microfiber).
-
Wipe the acrylic gently. Do not scrub.
-
Gently pat dry with another clean, dry microfiber cloth.
☀️ 3. Choosing the Perfect Spot
Where you hang your frame matters as much as how you clean it.
-
Avoid Direct Sunlight: UV rays are the number one cause of fading for photos and artwork. Hang your frames away from windows where they will be hit by direct, intense sunlight.
-
Avoid High Humidity: Do not hang framed art in areas with high moisture, such as bathrooms or kitchens. Humidity can cause moisture to get trapped inside the frame, leading to mold, mildew, or warping of the artwork.
-
Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Rapid changes in temperature (like hanging a frame directly over a radiator or air conditioning vent) can cause the frame materials to expand and contract, potentially damaging the frame or the art.
🛠️ 4. Handling & Hanging
-
Clean Hands: Always handle your frames with clean, dry hands to avoid transferring oils to the glass or frame material.
-
Secure Hardware: When hanging your frame, ensure you are using the correct hanging hardware (hooks, wires, and wall anchors) for the weight of the frame and your wall type.
-
Check Periodically: Once a year, gently check that the hanging wire and hooks are still secure.
